Vision
We take great pleasure in sharing with you our collective Vision for Lancaster & Morecambe.
In some respects it is ambitious, aspirational and idealistic - as is befitting of a Vision statement. However we sincerely believe it is realistic and achievable - although there is work to be done in capitalising upon our numerous assets and addressing the fault lines within our infrastructure.
Lancaster & Morecambe is a district of 140,000 people with some remarkable assets - quality architectural heritage, sublime landscape, a coastline with the finest views in Britain, two ports, well-positioned on the west coast motorway and railway networks and two successful and well-respected universities.
Lying at the mid point of the North West region, Lancaster & Morecambe is nevertheless just an hour's drive to both Manchester and Liverpool and their respective airports, is a gateway city for Cumbria and the Lake District and is on the northern edge of the new Central Lancashire City Region.
In many respects we have a good established brand, associated with heritage and quality of life and Lancaster City centre in recent years has seen promising and visible economic growth. Similarly the two universities have enjoyed considerable growth in student numbers and in their research and teaching reputations and considerable investment in facilities and accommodation.
However we believe that Lancaster & Morecambe has the potential to become a much more significant regional asset, with a distinctive and unique identity synonymous with excellence in education; certain niche areas of the knowledge economy; heritage, rural and coastal tourism; and quality of life / work-life balance.
